How to give barley your dog?
Method 1: Barley & chicken breast Soup
- Chicken breast: 2
- Water: 6 cups
- Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
- Ground eggshell: ¼ tablespoon
- Celery: 1 cup chopped
- Carrots: 2 cups soaked
- Barley soaked – 1 cup
First, place the breasts in a dutch oven, now add water and olive oil, and cook it in medium heat. Once cooked, remove the bones & skin and dice it into small pieces. Now in a pan, add water, chopped carrots, and barley. Cover the pan and cook for 45 minutes until barley well cooked. Once cooked add chicken breast in the pan and serve it when it is cold.
Method 2: Barley water
- Barley: 2 cups
- Water: 8 cups
- Honey: one tablespoon
Wash barley grains and soak them in 4 cups of water for eight hours.
After eight hours, drain the water.
Add remaining water and barley in a cooker and cook it until it is mushy.
Now strain the water, let it cool and add one tablespoon of honey into it and let your dog enjoy.
Method 3: Barley Flour & buttermilk biscuits
- All-purpose flour – 2 cups
- Barley flour- 2 cups
- Olive oil- 1 cup
- Buttermilk – 1 ½ cup
- Baking soda – ¼ tablespoon
Preheat your oven at 450°F. Now mix all the dry ingredients and combine them well. Now add olive oil and place the mixture in a food processor and pulse until it is mixed well. Add buttermilk and again pulse it.
Don’t over pulse. Do it until the dough is moistened. Now on a flat surface, make an 8-inch square by patting the dough. Use your hands to reshape the dough and make an 8-inch square that is 1-inch thick. Trim the dough from each side and cut it into 9 equal squares.
Place a parchment paper on a baking tray & put all the squares on the paper. Place your dish in the microwave and bake it for 20 minutes. Bake them until the biscuits are golden brown. Let your dog enjoy them once they are completely cold.
Can barely harm dogs?
Barley is non-toxic grain for dogs, but if given in large quantities, the dog can turn obese or diabetic because of high carbohydrate content. Your dog can be allergic to barley. In case you see any symptoms like vomiting, you should not feed this grain to your dog.
